Sustainable Gastronomy Day acknowledges that gastronomy is a powerful cultural expression deeply connected with the three Ps of Sustainable Development – People, Planet and Profit.
People are becoming increasingly interested in food quality, food production methods, food sourcing and purchasing and especially healthy cooking. They are also more aware of the environmental issues associated with it.
And How Can Restaurants be more Sustainable?
Restaurants can be a powerful way to engage clients, tourists and food lovers in tackling climate change through healthy & sustainable food choices. Restaurants working towards a more sustainable food ethic are taking actions and making choices that reinforce their sustainability by shopping locally, buying sustainability-raised meat and choosing sustainable uniforms, for instance. Raising awareness of clients on choices that are respectful of the environment.
Sustainability in the food sector involves not only consumers but extends to producers and retailers, and here is where we, at Uniformal, are proudly playing our part.
How Uniformal is getting more Sustainable every day?
At Uniformal, we introduced a new range of corporate wear and work wear fabrics made using recycled polyester from single used plastic bottles and apron canvas made using recycled cotton garments.
Our canvas are made from recycled cotton garments for all Uniformal canvas aprons.
They are ethically manufactured in our Dublin factory. The production of recycled cotton fibers requires a fraction of the total water usage needed to produce new cotton fibers. Furthermore, we will take back your sustainable canvas aprons at the end of their life cycle and send them back to the mill on your behalf - to be recycled once again. You will also receive a credit for the returned apron redeemable against your next order of sustainable canvas aprons from Uniformal.
Below you can see some example of Uniformal’s Canvas uniforms made from recycled cotton with natural leather straps and brass hardware:
